5-Axis CMM Scan Paths
Technique: Helical Scan
HELICAL SCAN is a 5-axis CMM tactile scanning technique. It is designed to move along the axis of an inside or outside cylinder or cone. During the scanning process, the helical scan traverses along the axis at a uniform length per revolution. The effect is a helical path capturing a large data point set over the full defined length.
This scan type is another productivity-enhancing method that allows higher speed tactile scanning without reducing the accuracy typically associated with higher speeds. The inner bore of the propeller presents an excellent application of the HELICAL SCAN.
Path programming and editing of this technique is intuitive and easy. Both cycle times as well as programming time are reduced with HELICAL SCAN and Verisurf.
